A very layered and textured Syrah at first seems a but clouded by all spice, but really relaxes with some time to reveal a good dose of pepper and slightly dried cherries. This really reminds me of what a winter wine should taste like: a touch too big, a good backbone of dried red berries, and warm.

Delicious all around and a beautiful example of what a well balanced and natural (letting the grape do the talking) syrah should taste like.
Bone dry, which is a good thing, with hints of kiwi and passion fruit, the Fritz Sauvignon Blanc finishes a bit quick, but the acidity coupled with hints of minerality really make for a nice SB.

Well done.
Yum! Should have guessed that this late harvest zin from Frick would be good. Nice nose of plum and a touch of cardamon. The sweetness is there, but not over the top.
I have wanted to try a Mendocino Pinot from Jeriko Estate for some time, so when I saw the 2005 Jeriko Estate Pinot Noir on the wine list at Sauce in San Francisco's Hayes Valley I had to order it. And I'm glad that I did. The 2005 Jeriko Estate Pinot Noir is a full-bodied Pinot with tastes of pepper, blackberry, and cherries. If you like more complex Pinots this one is for you.
I had a chance to taste a glass of the 2005 Terra Valentine Cabernet Sauvignon at the Bin 38 wine bar and lounge in San Francisco. The wine has a deep-red color with purple undertones – a classic Cabernet Sauvignon look. On the nose, the Terra Valentine Cabernet Sauvignon has a smoky earthy aroma. The taste was equally interesting – slightly bitter on the front of the tongue from the tannins (this wine is 3% Merlot) with a bold finish due to the alcohol content. I love Cabs from the Spring Mountain District, and this example from Terra Valentine’s Wurtele and Yverdon estate vineyards does not disappoint.
The 2002 Watts Cabernet Sauvignon has a smell of black cherries. The taste is full-bodied, with a tint of tobacco. Not a bad $20 cab.
I had a glass of Tamayo Family Vineyards 2006 Sauvignon Blanc while eating tapas at Bocadillos in the Financial District of San Francisco. I know, I know... maybe I should have been drinking Tempranillo, but I wanted something lighter to cool down the spicy tapas.

The 2006 Tamayo Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, almost dry, fruity wine. I tasted hints of lemons and oranges. The alcohol was a bit strong for a Sauvignon Blanc, but not too overpowering. I think this wine warrants a try, especially considering the awards it has received as well as the price point.

THIS IS A WRITE IN-

2004 "Red":

This is a delicious blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. A match made in heaven! As with any healthy relationship, these two share duties creating this gorgeous bright cherry nose with tiny hints of vanilla and some chocolate. You can not go wrong with these organic producers- they have a hip concept and some tasty juice! I believe the first time I tried this wine it was before noon on a Sunday and I was wearing a bathrobe. The second was last weekend on a wonderful San Francisco day, so obviously this wine can go well with any occasion. Drink up!
The winemaker Patrick Krutz gave me all of the details on this great wine while I was visiting his booth during the Family Winemakers wine tasting.

The 2005 Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from the Stagecoach Vineyard (go figure) which sits 1,800 feet above the Napa Valley floor. The higher growing elevation provides a cooler climate - leading to a softer texture in the wine. Patrick further accentuated the texture by playing with the structure of the wine when he added 15% Malbec. The result is a very smooth Cabernet Sauvignon with suppressed tannins.
I tasted this wine courtesy of Patrick Krutz (Owner & Winemaker) at the 2008 Family Winemakers of California wine tasting. This was one of the first wines that I tasted during the day, so I really had a chance to appreciate it with a fresh palate.

The 2005 Sleepy Hollow Vineyard Chardonnay from Krutz Family Cellars has smells of apricot and pineapple. While the slightly filtered wine tastes full of apples.

Patrick told me that he only has 70 cases left of this wine - so 'git while the gettin' is good!
